Have you started your preparations for Thanksgiving yet?
Are you one of those people who puts up the Christmas tree on November 1st or do you decorate with turkeys and pilgrims during November? I have to say I have decorated for Thanksgiving some years and other years I skipped from Halloween straight to Christmas decor. It really just depends what I feel up to each year I guess.
Last year I did not do a Thanksgiving tablescape because I already had Christmas decor up the first week of November. But this year I really wanted to give Thanksgiving its own time in the spotlight...
Yeah, this year I'm with the turkey!
Two weeks ago I posted my inspiration board for my Thanksgiving table, which included a lot of ideas that I did not use. Isn't that how it always goes when you are planning a creative project? If you would like some more inspiration, you can find that post here:
My actual tablescape turned out a little differently as I worked with different materials I had on hand.
So, here is my table setting for four.
I am not hosting the big family meal for Thanksgiving, so this is my tablescape for my household. My family has been enjoying the festive turkeys and fall colors in our home.
I built this tablescape around these beautiful Spode Woodland turkey plates. These four plates and the cloth napkins are the only things on this table that I didn't already have. Everything else were things I gathered from around my home.
Here is the full view of the table. If you're wondering what's going on in the background here, that is a cornucopia filled with gourds on top of the burgundy and black photo tower. The sideboard dresser has a fall floral arrangement made by yours truly and pumpkins that I glittered myself. I also made the floral centerpiece. I used all faux florals so that I can pull these out every year. I made these arrangements in 2012.
This table setting really should have gold flatware, but I will have to ask Santa for that. For now I am using what I have, which is Oneida Wordsworth flatware. I love the design on the handles. It is very similar to what my mom had when I was growing up. I added a few candy corn on each place setting for some of these photos for fun.
But of course they didn't last long as I had a little candy corn thief in the house.
He was trying to be sneaky about it and it was pretty funny.

Although I scooped up the last few of these Pumpkin Spice plaid napkins, there are plenty other beautiful plaid napkins on this site and great customer service! In my idea board post I said I had seen some copper-colored chargers and thought about painting these $2 ruffled gold chargers from Michaels Craft store a copper color. But then I pulled out my gold turkeys from the attic and realized I would be better off keeping the chargers gold to match the turkeys. No more candy corn here!
Here you can see the base of the centerpiece arrangement which is just a glass vase filled with fall vase filler pumpkins and faux indian corn from Pier 1 last year. I wrapped the vase in burlap deco mesh with a green deco mesh ribbon around the middle and a bow made from ribbon that has the word "autumn" printed on it. The deco mesh was leftover from a wreath I made a few months ago, but I found it at A.C. Moore craft store. The hydrangea sprigs are real and are from my garden. The magnolia flowers and leaves are faux florals from a local florist and decor shop. I also have a mixture of real and faux white pumpkins. I had these things around my house already.
I used two different types of ribbon on the white mini pumpkins because I couldn't make up my mind which one to use. The ribbon above is a "pumpkin spice" ombre orange and yellow ribbon while below is a gold and red sparkly thinner ribbon. I quickly made the monogram tag by cutting a circle out of scrap cardstock paper, which could also serve as a placecard. I had to sneak a monogram in there somewhere ;)
The neutral table runner with gold trim is from Marshals and I was so excited when I found it last January. The crystal stemware is inherited and I don't know anything about it unfortunately. The table and chairs were a hand-me-down also, but I think the dark color looks great with this tablescape and even matches the plates!
These gold turkeys were originally dark brown and very ugly. They were probably about $2 each from Christmas Tree Shops several years ago, and I promptly spray-painted them gold! There is one on each side of the centerpiece and two smaller turkeys on the shelf in the background, although you can't see them in this shot. Inexpensive and beautiful.
The indian corn on the right side is real and I got it from a local farm.
Just a few other angles of this cozy room.
Now you can finally see the other turkeys back there on that shelf. The small gold ones were originally olive green and $1 or less each from Christmas Tree Shops. I spray-painted them along with the larger turkeys on the table. The other turkey on the shelf is a tea light holder which might have been from Salvation Army, I don't remember. Don't judge me for having vinyl over my white chair cushions. I have a toddler in the house and that is an absolute necessity!!! I received the chairs with the vinyl already on them, so I left them that way.
The large white pumpkin was a Halloween decoration from Target this year and they were popular enough that it might be tough to find them now.
