Spring pistachio green table

Boy do I have a lot to share with you for spring table decor!  I can't even
fit it all in one post, so I look forward to sharing more with you over the next
few weeks.  I have started on my Easter post and am so
excited to share it with you once I'm done!

But for now, I'd love to share with you my favorite tablescape of the moment...I find myself going back to these pictures over and over again.  The first few are actually from the September 2012 issue of Southern Living, designed by Calder Clark, calderclark.com.  If money were not an issue, I would recreate this table in my own home in a heartbeat!!!  Unfortunately, at more than $350 dollars PER place setting (which is not even counting everything)...this exact table setting is out of the average joe's price range!  I'm guessing the total budget for this room was between $5K-10K, if not more. It is tablescapes like this that inspired me to create this blog and explore more affordable options.

Alright, let's pick this table apart, shall we?  Let's start out with the salad plate, pictured below.  As you can see, it has a matching dinner plate, and although not pictured, the pattern also comes on a lovely cup and saucer pair.  They are from Anthropologie.com, and the salad plates are $14 each.  Well, that is reasonable, so if this pattern floats your boat, you too can sport this on your table.
Next let's look at the dinner plate.  This dinner plate is called "Berry & Thread," $39 each at juliska.com.
Now that's a little more pricey, especially for a relatively plain plate, so you could totally find something less expensive that would work just as well.
Personally I think the Fleur De Lys plates below are even more lovely...just like the salad plate, they are from Anthropologie, and at $16 per dinner plate, they are less than half the cost of the plates above.

But if you want to cut your budget even MORE, you can't beat these Threshold Scallop white dinner plates from Target at $20 for a set of 4, which comes out to $5 each.  Sure they are more simple than the other two white plates, but they would still work and be easy on your wallet at the same time.

Next, let's move on to the chargers or service plates.  At a whopping $71 each, these Bellezza Celadon chargers can be purchased from vietri.com.  I love the pistachio color, and they are much nicer than the cheesy acrylic chargers I bought for $2 each at Michaels!  Plus, there are not many inexpensive charger plates close to this color.
So this is what I came up with as an alternative.  I know the color looks almost silver, but these are actually gold charger plates with a lovely beaded design around the edge, 4 for $8.50 on Amazon, which makes them a little over $2 apiece.  Now, that's much better than $71 each, right?!!  Either you can paint them pistachio green yourself (hey, you won't be eating off of the charger anyway, so it's ok to paint them) OR you can slip a pistachio green placemat underneath and leave these chargers as is.

Ballard Designs has a Southern Living line that includes the pistachio placemats below.  They are 4 for $50, which is $12.50 each.  You could also try to make your own from a similar color of fabric.

Ok, I know this is much brighter, but here is one more option on the green placemats.  Have you ever heard of buymydrap.com?  Well, you should check them out, because they have some great stuff!  They sell cotton napkins and placemats on perforated rolls, just tear off what you need!!!  So cool.  They can be washed and reused up to six times, or you can toss them after a single use.  They are also pretty affordable, as this roll of 12 placemats is $36...don't worry, I won't make you recall your multiplication tables, that works out to $3 a placemat!  Now that's a good deal.

Another option is to try a pistachio dinner plate instead of the white dinner plate.  I love these Lenox French Perle Pistachio dinner plates from Belk.com.  The dinner plates are $20 each, but at the moment they are buy 4, get 2 free, so you could get 6 for about $13 each.  Not bad at all, and they are beautiful.
Ballard Design's Southern Living line also has light green plates that are gorgeous.  The light blue dinner plates below also come in the light green color, and they are 4 for $60, which would be $15 each.  The lovely ruffled salad plates are 4 for $50, which is $12.50 each.  I love how they mixed the blue and green together and paired them with green and rosy-hued goblets.  The green goblets are called Seaglass Tea glasses, also from Ballard Designs, 4, for $40. The three pictures below are from the June 2012 issue of Southern Living.  Gorgeous!!

Ok, before I return to our first tablescape, I just want to show you one more tablescape with shades of light green from the May 2012 issue of Southern Living.  I'm not going to go into detail on this one, but I love it!!

The flatware from our first tablescape is called Mepra Due "Ice Oro" from barneys.com.  One 5pc. place setting is $115.  Yikes!

For less than the price of one place setting of that flatware, you can get four place settings of this 10 Strawberry Street brand gold flatware from Overstock.com, where it is called Crown Royal 21pc gold flatware set, (but it is still the 10 Strawberry Street brand).  It is $76.50 for the four place settings.

The agate coasters used in the first tablescape are called striped agate coasters by Roost on humbleabode.com, and they run for about $16 each.    They are the ones here on the left side.  The cheapest I could find for a similar product were these red agate coasters from Amazon (right), 4 for $50, which is $12.50 each.  You might be able to find some on Etsy for $10 each, but you'll probably have to buy them individually and from different shops, which means the shipping charges might nullify the savings.  Honestly you don't need them on this table, they're just a bonus.

Here is one of my favorite features of the table...the amazing Rosy-cheeked champagne coupes from bhldn.com!  How do I love thee, let me count the ways...I love the shape...I love the hint of a rosy color, and I love the gold rim.  I hate to disappoint you, but I have yet to come across a less expensive equivalent of these marvelous glasses.  They are 2 for $68.

The best I could come up with are these Cellar Glassware, set of 4 premium cocktail & champagne saucers from Macy's for $25.  The price is nice, but they don't have the rosy hue or the gold rim.  Oh well. :(

As for the gold tumblers, the sources did not reveal anything about them, but I dug up the info on my own.  They are called Culver Valencia glassware, which are available in different shapes and sizes.  You can find them on ebay and etsy.  They feature a 22-karat gold trellis pattern with green accents. They were manufactured in the 1950's-1980's in Brooklyn, NY and later Rahway, NJ.

These are Culver Valencia large scotch glasses, which
might be the ones used in the Southern Living tablescape.
This picture is from someone on Ebay who is selling 7 glasses for $50.

These are Culver Valencia 14oz old fashioned glasses
This picture is also from Ebay, 4 glasses for $40.

This is a Culver Valencia bar set, which includes an ice bucket and
two old fashioned glasses, $60 on Etsy from ZeeJunkHunter shop, ha ha.

As for the lovely and delicate gold napkins, they are bias silk organza napkins by Kim Seybert from neimanmarcus.com.  They are no longer available in that color, but there are gray ones 4 for $112 and pale pink ones, 4 for $120, to give you an idea of how much they probably cost.  Don't fret...if you like them you can find similar ones from alwayselegant.com.  Instead of silk organza, you can get polyester organza or polyester satin napkins, 6 for $9-10, which is about $1.50 each.  That's what I'm talking about!!

The crystal by Saro napkin rings above are $12-14 each at addyandcompany.com.  You could always use a faux crystal napkin ring, another type of napkin ring, or no napkin ring.

The place card holders are green flower frogs which can be found in different shapes and sizes from Amazon, Etsy, or Ebay.

Another one of my favorite parts of the tablescape is the stunning floral bouquet by blossomsevents.com on the jadeite cake stand.  This cake stand is from fishseddy.com where a 12" cake stand is $100.  I'm not sure if that is the size they used or not, as you can find Jadeite cake stands in 6", 9", 10" and 12".  The cheapest 12" Jadeite cake stand I could find was from Bellacor.com, $56, but really $65 with shipping.  So the only way you can get the cost down on this one is to try a smaller size and shop around for the best price.
****UPDATE:  Even though this post was weeks in the making, of course I come up with a new idea after I had already published the post.  Does that kinda thing ever happen to you?  Happens to me all the time.  Anyway, I was thinking about what a shame it was that I couldn't come up with a less expensive look-alike cake stand when EUREKA!  I remembered something I saw last year on Indulgy.com, which is kind of like Pinterest if you've never heard of it.  It was a DIY wooden cake stand using inexpensive parts from a hardware store, primed and painted any color of the rainbow.  BOOM.  For ten bucks, you can make yourself a lovely cakestand and paint it this color or any other color, PLUS you'll have the added bonus of the warm fuzzies you'll get from being so crafty and saving yourself $55+.  Now there are tons of DIY cake stand tutorials online, all you have to do is google "DIY wooden cake stand" or "cake stand tutorial." You can also enter those phrases into a google image search to quickly find a style of cake stand that floats your boat.  Here is an example of one with clear, step by step instructions and photos:
http://www.positivelysplendid.com/2013/02/diy-cake-stands.html
Personally I could do without the beads shown on this tutorial, or else I would choose much smaller beads for a more delicate look.  Anyway, I'm thrilled to have come up with a solution that won't have my husband asking why I spent $65 on a cake stand when I never bake ha ha.  I know Jadeite has a more glossy appearance than a painted wood cake stand, but perhaps you can use a high gloss paint!

The guest favors were "a posy to go-sy" in 4.5 inch silver-plated julep cups, $10 each from jamaligarden.com, painted in "Jardin" from Sherwin Williams.  How creative!

The table and chairs are from gdchome.com, and I
LOVE the paint color, which is "621C" from pantone.com.

Well, I will close this up with two pictures from my photo stash of pretty things that I saw when preparing this post.  First, a seafoam green oyster plate on the left that would go with the color scheme of this table, (don't remember where I found that picture) and lastly, a pretty collection of plates from thenester.com.
I hope I have inspired you to create something beautiful in your own home, even if you're not working with a budget of thousands of dollars!  Enjoy setting your table :)

  1. Hi Liz ~ you had no email to reply to so I hope you get this. I got those little cloches through Willow House. You can find them online {if they are still around}. I got those about three years ago.

    1. Thank you so much Kathy! I've never left a comment before so I didn't know how it worked, but I'm glad you were able to find me! I love those mini cloches and I had seen them before but just could not track them down. It looks like you can't order them directly from the website, and that you have to buy them through a house party sale or ebay. Does that sound about right?
